‘Tis the season for reflection on 2014, and in particular our Market Monitor picks. Today we will focus on a 2014 loser that we believe will turn into a 2015 winner.

In yesterday’s Guide we reviewed some of our 2014 picks and made some 2015 predictions. This prompted a review of our 2014 Market Monitor picks looking for something that jumped out us.

Last week we told you how to profit with oil’s downfall. This week we are looking for bargain basement prices, particularly related to oil.

Today’s losers are tomorrow’s winners: a common and somewhat bona fide axiom in the market which we brought up in yesterday’s Goldman Guide.

For those who come up with investing ideas based on economic indicators, there is a relatively new metric that has evolved over the last 25 years or so, called the FedEx/UPS (NYSE – FDX, NYSE – UPS) indicator.

Of all precious metals, gold continues to be the most popular among investors.  Recent strength in the US Dollar along with low inflation, however, have been adversely impacting the price of this commodity since 2011.  For example, since Labor Day 2011, the most widely held exchange traded fund (etf) in gold, SPDR Gold Trust (GLD) price has fallen nearly 40%.  Market Vectors® Gold Miners ETF price (GDX) similarly dropped nearly 75% and Market Vectors® Junior Gold Miners ETF price (GDXJ), 85%. Some pundits expect this trend to continue, others claim that gold is situated for a rebound.
