The initial part of the headline today was homage to the start of the World Series tonight and for those old enough to remember, Reggie Jackson’s three HR game in the 1977 edition of the Fall Classic.

In Monday’s Goldman Guide we discussed playing your favorite names.  While the small cap universe is somewhat void of household names when it comes to stocks and companies, there are still some famous or infamous names in the space if you follow it regularly.  Additionally, we mentioned that now is the time to start thinking about the Holiday season plays. 

Dole Food Company, Inc. (NYSE – DOLE - $13.66) is great combination of the Guide parameters mentioned above. 

In Monday’s Goldman Guide the number 1 item on our list for the market right now is to stand tall, invest small.  It may be time to consider longer term investments with the market in turmoil currently over the Washington fiasco.

In Monday’s Goldman Guide number 10 on our list of ways to invest for 4Q 2013 was to put money in a stock that had a catalytic event or inflection point.  Quarterly financial reporting season has begun and for some stocks these numbers represent a turnaround or the continuation of some awesome momentum.

In yesterday’s Goldman Guide we outlined top ten investing list for the market right now.  With the government shut-down and the debt default circus in the U.S., playing stocks based in Europe and Israel listed on U.S. exchanges may provide a nice alternative for some short-term gains. 

With all the ‘sky-is-falling’ doom and gloom from the media and politicians over the shut-down and looming default let’s end the week on a fun note.

Tonight the NFL week kicks off with two downtrodden franchises in the spotlight game for Thursday night, another feather in the cap for critics of Thursday night NFL football.
